Women and Pistols, 1976
There was no lesbian erotica made by lesbians that we were aware of, so we decided to create our own. Two women volunteered to participate and I took the photos.
In 1976, lesbian erotica was primarily made by men for men. The women in these photographs bravely agreed to create erotica made by women, for women. At that time, lesbians were considered sexual deviants and were at risk of experiencing rape, violence, and the loss of their careers, families, or children. Posing for these images was a bold and potentially dangerous act.
