Women's Coffee House, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1978. ©Meadow Muska. The New Year's Eve dinner and dance provided a safe, sober space for women.
In the basement of Plymouth Congregational Church, from 1975 to 1989, the Coffee House provided a safe social environment for women to meet and dance. I often passed my camera to a willing photographer to record my image too. Plymouth Church's progressive policies made a significant difference for the lesbian community at a time when the loss of career, children, and more was possible if women were outed.
