The Landykes movement started in Minnesota in the early 1970s in Aitkin, with Rising Moon being the first location followed by Mel's Land and then Del Lago. Blue, also known as Barb Demaesschalck, was a friend of the photographer, Meadow Muska (MeadowLark), and was invited to visit Del Lago after meeting in Eugene, Oregon in 1975. Blue eventually settled in at Del Lago. Dianna Hunter also wrote about her stay at Del Lago in her book Wild Mares: My Lesbian Back-to-the-Land-Life.
