Lesbians Are Survivors, Take Back the Night, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1978
Take Back the Night, Women walking alone at night risked sexual violence from men. Take Back the Night was a feminist/lesbian protest against male violence. We acknowledged the danger and our fear yet marched together to show our courage and solidarity.
Some of us wore identifying banners; incest, rape, lesbian, we are survivors.
While I wore an incest survivor, banner, I saw men sneer with lust in their face.
Damaris Jackson, Paula Gilbertson and Susie Mudge bravely carry a "Lesbians are Survivors" sign.
