Baby Dyke Twins, Como Park Zoo, St Paul, Minnesota 1973
Molly McCarthy, Cydni James Irish and myself went to the Como Park Zoo to "play camera". "Playing Camera" meant I would bring my professional camera and I'd set up the image, by using natural light to enhance our faces, setting aperture, speed and focus, and then pass the camera to my friend Molly to snap the image. I demonstrated how to see and record light. Molly was one of my first and early lesbian friends and we spent a lot of time playing camera throughout the decades. We were careful when played camera. Lesbian displaying affection in public was dangerous. Lesbianism could be use as a reason by men with target us with sexual violence. At this time we were considered deviants by the public. © by Molly McCarthy
